Measure AA

If approved, Measure AA will authorize $159 million in bonds to support extensive upgrades and repairs across local high and junior high schools within the Petaluma Joint Union High School District. This funding aims to enhance educational facilities, improve safety, and provide students access to modern, state-of-the-art learning environments. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the key projects planned:

Modernization of Educational Facilities

  • Classroom and Laboratory Enhancements: The district will renovate and modernize classrooms, science labs, and other essential facilities. Upgrades will include new flooring, ceilings, windows, doors, and lighting, creating more inviting and functional learning spaces.

  • Furniture and Equipment Provision: All classrooms and facilities will have modern furniture, casework, and necessary technology to facilitate effective teaching and learning.

 

Safety and Security Improvements

 

  • Campus Safety Upgrades: Measure AA proposes extensive enhancements to campus security, including the installation of additional fencing, gates, intercom systems, and improved lighting to ensure the safety of students and staff.

  • Infrastructure Improvements: Outdated heating, air conditioning, plumbing, and electrical systems will be replaced with energy-efficient systems that comply with current building codes, ensuring a safer and more comfortable environment.

 

Replacement of Temporary Classrooms

 

  • State-of-the-Art Classrooms: The measure includes provisions for replacing outdated portable classrooms with permanent, state-of-the-art facilities. This will provide students with a more stable and conducive learning environment.

 

Outdoor and Recreational Enhancements

 

  • Playfields and Physical Education Facilities: Upgrades to playfields, gymnasiums, and other athletic facilities will be prioritized. This includes renovating existing sports areas and constructing new spaces for physical education activities.

  • Improved Outdoor Learning Environments: The district plans to develop and enhance outdoor areas with landscaping, irrigation, and installing shade structures and seating, creating additional spaces for learning and recreation.

 

Technology and Job Training Facilities

 

  • 21st Century Learning Environments: The measure will support the modernization of technology infrastructure to ensure classrooms are equipped with the latest tools for teaching and learning, including computers, advanced learning technologies, and upgrades to telecommunications and network systems.

  • Job Training Facilities: Enhancements will focus on technology and job training facilities to better prepare students for the workforce and provide hands-on learning experiences.

 

Sustainability Initiatives

 

  • Energy Efficiency Measures: The district plans to implement energy-efficient systems throughout its facilities, including solar panel installations and electric vehicle charging stations, promoting sustainability in school operations.

  • Climate-Resilient Solutions: Projects will include developing permeable surfaces and stormwater retention systems and planting climate-appropriate vegetation to enhance environmental sustainability.

 

Compliance and Accessibility Upgrades

 

  • ADA Accessibility Improvements: The measure includes provisions for necessary upgrades to ensure compliance with ADA regulations across all school facilities. This encompasses improvements to site access, parking, and restrooms to ensure inclusivity for all students and staff
